Dyck Arboretum of the Plains
177 West Hickory
Hesston, Kansas

You are invited to bring your friends and family, lawn chairs or picnic blankets and join us for Summer Music Nights at the Dyck Arboretum! This event is free to the public – donations are welcome.

Water and lemonade will be provided. Bring your own picnic, if you like. Everyone is welcome to walk the Arboretum grounds and enjoy the summer evening.

Music will begin at 7 pm. Performers will be located on the covered patio on the west side of the Prairie Pavilion and the public is invited to gather on the lawn areas nearby.

Known for their “Songs of the Flint Hills,” Tallgrass Express specializes in celebrating the land and people of the Kansas tallgrass prairie and Flint Hills.

The Kansas Governor named songwriter Annie Wilson the “Flint Hills Balladeer” for her songs about prairie plants and animals, history, and ranching culture.  Annie and her husband operate the Five Oaks Ranch near Elmdale, west of Cottonwood Falls.

Carl Reed on bass, harmonica and vocals is with us from Manhattan and has also written several of their songs.

Derrick Doty also comes to us from Manhattan.  In addition to playing fiddle and mandolin, Derrick is a Kansas music historian, giving talks across the state for the Kansas Humanities Council.

Now in their 20th year, the band recently completed their fourth all-original album – “Out on the Tallgrass Prairie” – available here this evening at special concert prices.

You can find ALL their music, including lyrics and related photos, on their website – tallgrassexpress.com, and you can hear them on Spotify and other streaming services.
